Back to School Foodie Friday with Tessa L

We're doing something different this week, and likely for a few weeks. We're talking with some young people we know getting ready to go back to school. We're asking them what they like to eat, cook and enjoy about school. Oh, and what they want to be when they grow up. This week, meet Tessa L, who's going into the 7th grade in Anchorage.

What makes you nervous about going back to school?

Homework

What is your favorite school lunch?

Grilled cheese. I normally use cheddar.

Do you buy school lunch or make your own?

I usually make my own, but occasionally get school lunch. I usually put apples and peaches. And then I put carrots or tomatoes and sometimes chips and Goldfish. Cookies only on special occasion. But after Halloween and Easter I get candy too. I usually buy them Friday because I get a break from making it. That makes buying it special.

What is your favorite meal?

Well, there are a lot, but when we visit my grandfather back east, I LOVE eating lahbsta.

What is your favorite after school snack?

Apples and caramel

What’s your favorite snack your parents will let you have?

Chocolate covered blueberries

If we gave you $5 to buy any after school snack you wanted, what would it be?

Chips with guacamole

Do you eat breakfast before school? What do you have?

Yes. I have cereal or oatmeal

Do you cook? What’s your favorite food to make at home?

Yes. I like to bake cakes. I usually make white cakes or sometimes I put confetti/sprinkles inside it. Then I use my mom's homemade frosting. It's usually vanilla butter cream.

What’s your favorite meal at home?

Pasta. I like to eat my mom's Merrimack Chopped Suey. It's pasta with onions, tomato soup, and elbow macaroni. There's also spaghetti carbonara that is bacon, eggs and Parmesan cheese usually with spaghetti noodle.

What’s your favorite meal to order in a restaurant?

Sandwiches or spaghetti. I like BLTs and maybe like a burger and stuff like that.

If you know, what do you want to be when you grow up?

A prosecutor. It sounds really interesting. I've been interested in how in court, people get sentenced when they rob people and stuff. Why they should go to jail.

Do you have a hobby?

I like playing the violin. I've been doing it a while now and it's fun.
